I don’t think this kind of thing is specific to Indonesia only, or even to any one country. In America too, this kind of thing occurs: a new business is full of spirit, working its ass off to satisfy customers and make an impression. But success breeds laziness, and tiredness.

Corporations are different. They are like machines that do not get tired. The corporate structure always disciplines its workers. So their friendly smile is not “real.” And the food is no good. But the customer at least feels they are being paid attention to. The customer’s ego feels better.

Just because “fast food” corporations began in the West does not mean all restaurants in the West are corporate. They also have their certain history of development.
